Day 3, September 18

Today was our first full day in Scotland. Jet lag and the remainders of a cold made today a laid back day. We started with some coffee and the BBC version of "The Today Show". Our landlord left us a nice fruit basket and card. Wasn't that nice?

Today we had a low of 8 and a high of 18 degrees. David explained how to convert that to Fahrenheit but I was never good in math so lets just say that we are not in Texas anymore. However, we still attempted to make our southern ice tea but the Scottish version of ice cubes is a bit challenged.

David did some work and I did some reading for the rest of the morning. In the afternoon we decided to take a walk (this is a shot of our flat as we went down the street) to an area called "Golden Acre", an area of small shops and residential buildings. We window shopped on our way down to the end and then got down to purchases on the way back. First we went into a pastry shop and bought dessert.

Next we went into a Chemist (pharmacy) to buy essential and then we moved on to a flower shop. Our flat is the basement flat with a set of stairs leading up to the street level. By the way, it has a cool door knocker in the shape of bagpiper. Anyway, there is a planter at the bottom of the steps so we bought violas and sedum so that we can have a cheerful entry. We finished off our purchases at a News Agent which is a small version of a mom and pop grocery store. We bought some Irn-bru which is a Scottish soft drink and a few other items.

One of the things I love are the chimney pots on all the roofs. These were the chimneys for coal burning fireplaces in each room of the 100 year old buildings.

Food choices are very interesting in new places. Tonight we fixed stir fry and you can see by the photo that you can purchase all the veggies for different types of stir fry already chopped, diced together and ready to go. Throw in the Scottish version of Polish sausage and it made for a very tasty dinner.

We are going to watch a movie and eat some carrot cake for dessert. Hope you are all having a great day and we will post more tomorrow.
